Western North Carolina
Blue skies and mountains of changing colors
Rolling hills, mountain peaks and quiet creeks
Well-traveled dirt roads
Smiling faces and friendly dogs
This is western North Carolina - a tapestry of textures and land of clear light.
Our house sits up on Ad Tate Knob in the Utah Mountains in Waynesville. Overlooking Maggie Valley, we see the Plott Balsam Mountains to our left and the Balsam Mountain Range straight across the valley. Everyday we watch the shadows and light and enjoy the mountain peaks and cool mountain air as Jonathan Creek flows west then north, from Maggie to Cove Creek.
We call these mountains "Sequoia's Mountains" because this is Sequoia's favorite spot on earth. This website is dedicated to Sequoia - The Teaching Dog.
What makes this place special is the sense -
when we head down mountain roads -
that we are returning.
That hidden in the mist that surrounds the Appalachians
is a mystery far older than we are - a mystery of place and spirit.
